May Revenue Insights

DETROIT, MI
Michigan’s sports betting market posted a total handle of $395.3 million in May 2025, according to data from the Michigan Gaming Control Board. This figure represents an 11.4% increase over May 2024, marking a strong rebound from a slight April dip and reaffirming the state’s position as one of the most robust betting markets in the U.S.

With 13 online sportsbooks currently operating, Michigan maintains the third-largest roster of legal digital operators in the country, following only New Jersey and Colorado. That density has continued to translate into consistent month-to-month engagement, even as national trends plateau.

Compared to the first five months of 2024, the 2025 numbers show a pattern of both higher revenue and tighter margins. While May’s handle was slightly lower than January’s $574.6 million peak, it remains the third-highest monthly total so far this year.

While gross gaming revenue (GGR) in May was lower than in February or March, tax contributions increased, due in part to differences in promotional deductions and adjustments across operators.
